A Connection

Existence is not denied: Hamed Afroozi

A Connection

What if others are gas lighting me,
and time is a distorted mess?
I speak through infinite mirrors,
only making eye contact through reflections,
seeing and hearing but not at the same time.
Where my yesterday to you
was last week
and the eternal moment in which I can relive my life over and over
is to you, a simple second.
In the foggy twilight,
drowning in a gray haze beneath a pink sky they said:
“It’s so beautiful I could cry.”
I stared at them through the infinite mirror.
You would?
I thought?
So soon?
I saw distortions of their tears
saw my own nose in 100-∞
different realms
saw my yesterday’s euphoria in their new present—
Empathy, is that you?
